Forgive and Forget? 😳
Forgive and forget, right? Right??? Forgiveness seems to be one of the biggest obstacles to prayer. To some it may seem that the gospels encourage us to be push overs, "turn the other cheek". To most forgiveness is just plain hard. We struggle to forgive ourselves for what we've done, thinking thoughts like "God would never forgive me for that!" and others, "I can never forgive my sister for taking my cookie!" There is prudence in protecting oneself after a betrayal of trust, however unforgiveness becomes a poison we drink harming only ourselves. I have heard of people forgiving in an instant, like Pope John Paul II forgiving his shooter in the 80s, what a beautiful picture. But! I personally have found, like with most healing, forgiveness happens in layers like peeling an onion; it is a continual turning to God to help you forgive and move onto the better portion he has for me. Are you ready to stop drinking your poison?
